action to convince Workman Arts (WA) to take responsibility in safely housing its artist members.

Workman Arts is an organization that supports artists who identify with and/or submit to the labels "neuroatypical", "invisibly disabled" and/or "mentally ill". WA has a responsibility in the realization of the basic human right to housing of its members, a right that is enshrined in the Canada National Housing Strategy since 2019.

1st proposal to WA staff and Board
discussion about this proposal with the Workman Arts Members' Diversity Equity Inclusion Committee (DEI)
revision of our proposal
February 7, 2022: DEI votes to support our proposal so that it be included in WA's Strategic Plan for the next 5 years.
we send a more detailed vision of how we see WA take action in terms of housing. we call this vision 2-pager job description for Workman Arts' housing worker & strategist. we send it to ED and interim Artistic Director Scott Miller Berry and to Membership and Hospital Program Manager Raine Laurent-Eugène in september 2022.
Scott Miller Berry let us know that we would be invited to discuss this document with them when they would be ready.
we haven't heard back yet.
have we been failed?
we create an interactive map dedicated to our collaboration with Workman Arts about housing and submit it to Being Scene 2023 and to the Rendezvous with Madness Festival 2023. our work is rejected in both despite much encouragements from staff.
what is the wall between housing and WA?
we continue to work on our map. link is coming soon.

this page is dedicated to the memory of Workman Arts member Justin Haynes who was discovered dead in his apartment after a draining and infuriating housing crisis in 2019.
